This is my review of The Cruel Prince by Holly Black. I wrote this review a while back, but as I will be finishing the series in a few days, I thought of posting this. Let me know in the comments how you liked this book!
“If I cannot be better than them, I will become so much worse.”
I don’t know how to even start expressing my feelings for this book. For starters, this surpassed all my expectations. Faerie is an awesome place. The people…not so much.
Speaking of which, let’s talk about the characters.
I LOVED HER SO MUCH. She is one of those badass, confident MCs I love reading about. Jude is a character so many people can relate too, and to portray her personality so beautifully is just…it touches my heart.
I don’t care about her. She could jump into a well and drown herself and I wouldn’t care. She’s lucky she’s a fictional character, otherwise I wouldn’t have shown any mercy towards her.
Him. Now I don’t care if he’s not real. If he doesn’t die in the course of the series, I will topple into Faerie myself and kill him. He can burn himself for all I care.
Taryn and him make the perfect couple.
I love her. I love the LGBTQ+ representation through her character, and it’s just so wholesome. She deserves everything in the world for being such a supportive sister to Jude.
AND NOW…WE HAVE PRINCE CARDAN
“Most of all, I hate you because I think of you. Often. It’s disgusting, and I can’t stop.”
Okay, I’m going to be very honest here, I hated him for the first ten chapters. Now all I can think of is marrying him. He’s literally THE BEST. He’s one of those boys who look like they’re so tough from the outside, but are really a sugar muffin from the inside. Don’t deny it, Cardan, I know you are. Also, if he and Jude don’t become endgame by the end of this trilogy, I’m suing.
The plot was so engaging and there wasn’t a single moment that I was bored. There was always something happening and that only added to the amazing-ness of this novel. Also, can we please talk about the end??!!!
What was that? I’m still in shock after what Jude had done. Don’t get me wrong, It’s really smart, but like hey, a little warning would have been nice? Just kidding.
I just really hope this doesn’t cost her in the future (which, of course I totally know is going to happen).
I really loved this book and can’t wait to finish the series! Until next time!
